Le Fantôme d'Henri Langlois plot
Documentary about the legendary Henri Langlois (1914-1977), the founder of the Cinémathèque Française, the Film Museum of France. Director Richard chronologically reconstructs the history of the Cinémathèque and the later Musée du Cinéma under Langlois, with a large number of archive images, feature film fragments and interviews with those involved - including directors such as Eric Rohmer, François Truffaut, Jean Rouch and Claude Chabrol. Old interviews show the charm and perseverance of Langlois, who was seen as 'father' by the Nouvelle Vague and was repeatedly opposed by the French government. He saved many film classics from oblivion or destruction - sometimes by theft.
