Kinderjaren plot

In the summer of 2005, Piet Oomes went to Sumatra with his mother Ank and her sister, in search of the Japanese camps where the two had been imprisoned with their mother during the Second World War. During the journey it becomes clear that the filmmaker is mainly engaged in a personal quest: for an explanation for the distant relationship he has with his mother. The camera registers the collisions that the two have had with each other for forty years.
