Jong! Suriname plot
On November 25, 2010 it was 35 years ago that Suriname became independent. At that time 70% of the Surinamese population consists of young people; 40,000 of these were allowed to vote for the first time in May 2010. In the run-up to the elections, Mirjam Marks follows three of these young people for a year. What opportunities does present-day Suriname offer young people in 2010? Where do they see their opportunities and possibilities? 'Young! Suriname' shows how aspiring politician Grätl (22), jazz guitarist Jason (20) and jungle guide Maradona (19) try to make their dreams come true. What are their dreams and ambitions, both for their generation and for their country?
