Nezhlya is a 'bridge figure' at De Toverberg, a colorful primary school in Ghent. Nezhlya knows everyone and everyone knows Nezhlya; it builds the bridge between school and home, where there is often poverty, social insecurity and a low educational level of the parents. But how do you get parents involved in the school if, as a newcomer, they speak little or no Dutch, have little self-confidence or if they struggle with their livelihood? Nezhlya's door is always open for them. She listens, is confided in and helps them on their way.
