Insulo de la Rozoj - La Liberta Fa Paura plot

The fact that Italy waged its last territorial war 40 years ago is not engraved in history. The war was directed against Esperanta Respubliko de la Insulo de la Rozoj, or Rose Island. Industrial engineer Giorgio Rosa was the founder of this microstate in the Adriatic Sea, eleven kilometers from the Italian coastal city of Rimini. After years of preparation and setbacks, the island, a construction of steel and concrete with a surface area of four hundred square meters, was a fact in 1967. Two years later Rosa declared independence. Rose Island had an official language (Esperanto), a flag, an anthem, a currency (the milo), stamps, shops, a restaurant and a nightclub. The documentary looks back at this short history with interviews with those involved at the time and lawyers, who explain the conditions a nation state must meet, interspersed with archive footage.
