Located above the Arctic Circle, Apatity has served as a place of exile for Stalin's political opponents since its foundation in 1930. The climate is unrelenting, life dull and mind-numbing. Yet many residents of this gulag continued to live here after the dictator's death in 1953 and even after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The documentary shows how the totalitarian system of the past is reproduced here from generation to generation. You are born, live, work and die in favor of the state. As if nothing has ever changed.
