Immortal plot
About the discovery of the 'secret of eternal life' and its downside. Face creams, botox and plastic surgery: they are all just palliatives against the aging process. But the 'true solution' was discovered a few years ago in the DNA of a simple creature in an ordinary pond. One of the discoverers was the Australian scientist Prof. Elizabeth Blackburn. She showed that the telomeres, the enzymes on the ends of chromosomes, ensure that cells do not die. It earned her the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2009. In other words, the telomeres are the enzymes of eternal youth. But there is a catch: the same substances are also carcinogenic. This documentary examines this biological paradox and its remarkable consequences for ageing, stress, disease and cancer.
