Ilang Jawane plot

In this personal documentary, filmmaker Wouter van der Spoel travels to Java with his son Sriyanto in search of their family history. What begins as a quest for the past of their Indies family evolves into a poignant journey about identity, colonial history, and the question of which stories we pass on to the next generation. The journey takes father and son through Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, and smaller villages like Cikijing. They visit places connected to their own family, but also places where the history of Indonesia was shaped.
