Fien de la Mar (1898 – 1965) was an exceptional actress and singer. The first real Dutch diva could not be pigeonholed. She could do everything: cabaret, revue, operetta, theatre, film and television. She disregarded the distinction between high and low art and could excel in both. In the Netherlands she was highly regarded for her unprecedented talent and complete dedication. Her life and play were so closely linked that it ended up being fatal to her. A tragedy that at times gave her roles a chilling shine. Through film fragments and photos, the film evokes an image of the magic of her playing, the euphoria and despair in her life.
