I Am So Sorry plot
"A look at the dangers of nuclear energy."
In a hushed forest there is a warning sign: radiation hazard! “Is this the past or the future?” muses the masked figure who appears as a kind of ghost in nuclear disaster areas. At a time when nuclear power may be re-emerging as an alternative to fossil fuels, this calmly observed, penetrating tour takes us to places of warning. We see desolate landscapes and overgrown ruins around Fukushima and Chernobyl, abandoned houses with photos of residents left behind, the dismantling of a nuclear power plant in Germany, militant demonstrators and the ghostly underground tunnels in Finland where highly radioactive waste must be stored for the next thousand centuries. But also intimate moments of a Japanese couple in their emergency home and two lonely elderly people who, despite the radiation, return to their abandoned village in the exclusion zone around Chernobyl: touching encounters that offer a human counterbalance to the hushed threat.
