How We Get Free follows Elisabeth Epps for two years as she fights to abolish cash bail in Colorado and end the criminalization of poverty. Epps is the founder of the Colorado Freedom Fund, one of more than 100 community bail funds across the country, created to help inmates who cannot afford bail before their trial. For Epps, this work is personal – she has been in prison and witnessed the conditions she desperately wants to change.
