Hospital plot
Wiseman follows the day-to-day running of New York City's Metropolitan Hospital. Wiseman contrasts routine with emotions surrounding personal problems of individuals in need, who are teetering on the edge of human dignity. Poverty, neglect, alcohol, drugs and violence literally make victims here, but so does the bureaucratic system that seems like an impregnable fortress. Even for the concerned psychiatrist of a black, gay, schizophrenic, underage, male prostitute who fights in vain against the unmerciful 'Mrs Hightower' of the welfare office during a telling telephone conversation. And what to do with a boy brought in that is not picked up by anyone?
