Holi-days plot

Why do we go en masse to places of pilgrimage, art capitols and tourist paradises? Traveling from Jerusalem via Florence to Las Vegas, Steinberger puts the answers to this question on an increasingly general plan. In Jerusalem, we see tourists visiting the holy places, buying souvenirs and inflicting on themselves the torments that Christ once endured.
