Het Leven Is Ergens Anders plot
Love, jealousy, hatred and death are the major themes in literature and film. But according to director Jennifer Pettersson, one of the most important phenomena in our lives remains largely out of the picture: the wait. Although everything in the modern age seems to save us waiting as much as possible, we still spend a considerable part of our lives waiting. For her film she was looking for one location with its own visual strength. She found it in the Rotterdam neighborhood of Feijenoord in the Peperklip, an eye-catching apartment building where people live their lives in hundreds of housing units. Pettersson zooms in on four seemingly random homes and portrays the residents. Lives put 'on hold' by circumstances. Robel, the rapper, who lives with his mother, but is waiting for the assignment of a home of his own. He spends the waiting time hanging out with his friends. The American Mark who dreams of emigrating to Australia with his wife and three children, but who has to wait until his wife has finished her education. Russian Svetlana, who has been waiting for a cure for her inexplicable headache for five years. Her husband Victor who all this time takes care of the children and the household and who waits for the time when he can finally start looking for a job again. And finally Ritus, who moves in with his mother after a divorce and waits for an opportunity to see his child.
