Het Kortste Eind plot

This documentary is about the women in the coconut fiber industry in Sri Lanka. In this 'informal' sector, the hardest and dirtiest work (such as collecting soaked coconuts from foul-smelling mud pools and beating the fibers with sticks) has traditionally been done by women who belong to the poorest segment of the population. The women work outside the labor legislation and are often breadwinners. The government underestimates not only their numbers but also the importance of their income for their families and for the daily economy.
