Hamou Beya plot
The Bozo are a group of people known for generations as agile fishermen in the West African country of Mali. They know the water of the Niger River like no other and have a good relationship with the water spirits. However, in recent years their lives have not gotten any easier as fish stocks have declined dramatically due to climate change and drought. Gala is one of many young Bozo men who have felt compelled to leave their village and family to earn some money further upriver as a 'sand fisherman'.
