Grüningers Fall plot

According to Swiss documentary filmmaker Richard Dindo (1944), the media would have us believe that Swiss neutrality during the Second World War was just a thin layer of veneer surrounding Nazi sympathies and anti-Semitic feelings. This is why he became interested in the history of Paul Grüninger, a Swiss policeman who helped hundreds of Jews who had fled Austria to obtain false border documents in the late 1930s.
