When filmmaker Pamela Yates made a documentary about the Guatemalan war in 1982, she had no idea that her material would now be used to indict the soldiers responsible. Personal investigation in which Yates and four other experts pool their knowledge to help end impunity with their granito, their grain of sand. In 2005 an extensive file of former soldiers surfaced. This means a big change for the families of the victims: the perpetrators finally get a face and the investigation into the crimes and the missing bodies begins. Filmmaker Pamela Yates is approached for this research. The images she made in 1982 for her documentary 'When the Mountains Tremble', which gave Nobel Prize winner Rigoberta Menchú her first fame, contain important confessions and testimonies. In Granito, Yates alternates poignant images from nearly thirty years ago with the experiences and knowledge of lawyers, forensic investigators and other experts.
