In the film God's Own Parish, parishioners talk about their special bond with the idiosyncratic Father Winand Kotte and his Willibrordkerk. The story of Father Kotte is above all the story of a parish adrift. From people looking for the warm Catholic bath as they knew it from the past. While Rome and the diocese advocated a much more contemporary course of all ecclesiastical life. Director Sherman de Jesus began God's Own Parish as a quest for the mysticism manifested by Father Winand Kotte and his parishioners. They fight for the personal experience of the faith. At the same time, they manage to save the monumental neo-Gothic St. Willibrord Church from demolition and preserve it for the faith. In a time of great confusion - the turbulent sixties - Father Kotte managed to defy the intrigues of the powerful and influential ecclesiastical institution.
