Gerdas Schweigen plot
The first step is to break a taboo: the child Knut asks his 'Aunt Gerda' from America, during a visit to the GDR, the whereabouts of her child about which no one dares speak. The coffee guests are stunned. Knut is confused and embarrassed. He will never forget this Sunday afternoon. 30 years later, Knut Elstermann visits "Aunt Gerda" in New York and asks her the same question again. She then tells about close family and friendships in the pre-war period, the survival of Jewish friends and acquaintances, but also about deportation and death. It is the story of a search for the truth in documents and eyewitness accounts as well as in his own memories...
