Fremde Liebe plot
Rhaissa laughs. She laughs at what her friend Fatima says about the man who will be her husband in a few days. He's not particularly handsome, nor does he have a large dose of 'ashek', or pride. But still, Rhaissa will marry him. The proposal was made, her parents agreed, so she resigned herself to it. One more time she tends the goats, sings on the slopes of Nigeria's Aïr Mountains and is a girl. The marriage ritual is governed by the unspoken laws of 'Takaret', which dictate that she does not speak or leave the tent until the wedding night.
