Filmfarsi plot

On August 19, 1978, hundreds of visitors to the Rex cinema in the Iranian city of Abadan were killed by arson. The drama marks both a key moment in the Iranian Revolution and the end of a thriving film industry, which was almost completely erased from collective memory. With clips from more than a hundred films that survived the Iranian Revolution thanks to illegal VHS copies, this essay highlights a thriving film industry of popular action thrillers and melodramas.
