Facing the Music plot
"Professor Anne Boyd is fighting to save her university music department. She's going to need more than a miracle!"
Facing the Music begins at the opening of the academic year at the University of Sydney, Australia and follows the main characters throughout that academic year. The venue is the Music Faculty, headed by the renowned composer Anne Boyd. Young, talented music students hang out on her every word during her lectures on the history of Western music and star in the hands-on lessons. Meanwhile, scenes take place in the corridors and conference rooms of the university that give a less serene atmosphere. As a result of years of budget cuts, the faculty is struggling with major shortages. Materials and instruments are constantly being cut back and the few teachers who want to stay under these conditions are overworked. Anne Boyd is forced to fight for the quality of education in her department. She does this full of energy and passion, but at times also with the courage of despair. After initial hesitation, she also takes action: she speaks at protest rallies and during a strike, and she even approaches potential corporate sponsors.
