Documentary rendering of ex-NSA official John Perkins' autobiographical book. Through interviews he talks about his recruitment by the US government as 'Chief Economist', commonly referred to as 'Economic Hit Man'. Perkins' job was to persuade the political leaders of developing countries to accept huge amounts of development funds in the form of loans through institutions such as the World Bank, IMF and USAID. Saddled with huge debts that the countries could no longer pay, these countries could then be forced to open their economies to American companies that needed raw materials or cheap labor. If these plans didn't work, Perkins said, the "jackals" were called in: agents who, with CIA approval, tried to orchestrate a revolution or coup.
