Elena plot

Elena and her family are at risk of losing their legal residency in the Dominican Republic if they fail to obtain the necessary papers in time. Faced with a mountain of opaque bureaucratic processes and a racist, hostile society around her, Elena becomes the face of the fight to remain in a country built on the labor of her father and ancestors.
