Dust Breeding plot
While former Serbian leader Radovan Karadžic is being tried in the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, Sarah Vanagt inspects the courtroom. There are audio and video clips of the legal process in which the defendant, conducting his own defense, questions the authenticity and interpretation of images of war crimes committed under his rule. “Dust Breeding” examines the obstacles that arise in reconstructing a war, even when the events are abundantly documented. By zooming in on the tangible objects in the courtroom as if they were evidence, the artist makes an attempt to decipher a secret language in the traces left by the war.
