Dûr plot
“Dûr” is a melancholic journey through Turkey and Europe by director Kazim Öz (1973). After patiently and lovingly capturing the confusing impressions of his old village on camera, he focuses on the villagers who have emigrated to Europe. When he shows them the images of their old neighbors and locals, they seem to miss their hometown with all their hearts. In a number of enchanting scenes, in which the camera circles and clings to its subject, Öz shows the strength that both the villagers and ex-villagers draw from their melancholic, self-invented songs.
