Divine Trash plot
About the life and work of Baltimore-born film pioneer John Waters. Intercut with an interview with Waters from 1972, clips from his films are reviewed. There are also more recent interviews with his parents, his brother, the mother of actor Divine, actors and film crew members, directors, film critics, psychologists and with a censor, who shudders when he thinks back to the films of Waters. There is behind-the-scenes footage from the film Pink Flamingos, covering the film's script, set, film terms, editing, distribution and impact. In between all the acts, the documentary is also an ode to the deceased Divine (1945-1988).
