Die Reise zum Sichersten Ort der Erde plot
Using 'peaceful' nuclear energy, humanity has produced approximately 350,000 tons of radioactive waste in about 60 years without having found a truly definitive solution. There remains the problem of storage so that the waste can be preserved for hundreds, even thousands of years. Documentary filmmaker Edgar Hagen follows 'storage expert' Charles McCombie and his staff on their worldwide quest for the so-called 'safest place' in the world. This quest starts in Switzerland and leads, among other things, through the German Gorleben, the Gobi desert and a radioactive Indian reservation in the US.
