De Zwemmers plot

In the summer of 2006, the Netherlands was hit by a heat wave. The extreme temperature has prompted the residents of the Indische Buurt, one of the poorest districts of Amsterdam, to cool off in the local swimming pool. People in this part of town, with a high concentration of immigrants, normally meet in cafes and restaurants, but the heat has made the pool the favorite meeting place. In 'De Zwemmers' people swim, gossip and flirt, and people talk surprisingly candidly about their difficult lives. Lives that under normal circumstances would remain closed.
