De Stem van de Meester plot
This documentary follows the various stages in the development of the young and exceptionally talented countertenor Oscar Verhaar and his coach, conductor Geert van den Dungen. As conductor of the Rotterdam Boys' Choir, Geert van den Dungen discovered an exceptional singing talent in the twelve-year-old choirboy Oscar. In the years that followed, Geert would become Oscar's most important singing teacher and he soon established Oscar as a soloist in the many St. Matthew and John Passions he conducted. The next step in Oscar's singing career is a study at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Here Oscar has to deal with different teachers and a different approach. How does this affect the bond with his mentor? Does he have to and can he free himself from Geert and what does that process mean for the discoverer of the talent? And can a singing teacher let go of his pupil so that he becomes the master of his own voice?
