De Spookschrijver plot
Portrait of the successful copywriter Jacques van Tol (1897-1969). In the years around the Second World War, Van Tol was one of the most prolific authors in the Netherlands. He wrote countless songs for Louis Davids, Fien de la Mar, Corry Bokken and Tom Manders, among others. Because the artists often signed the lyrics themselves, the writer hardly gained name recognition. With the anti-Semitic “Sunday Afternoon Cabaret” by Paulus de Ruiter, Van Tol committed a fatal misstep. The mistake cost him dearly. After the liberation, he was held in traitor camps for several years. Twenty-five years after Jacques van Tol's death, director Guus van Waveren tries to unravel the many mystifications surrounding the anonymous successful author in “The Ghost Writer”.
