Chacabuco, Memoria del Silencio plot
Chacabuco is the name of a former mining town in northern Chile. After the military coup in September 1973, the town was converted into a concentration camp, where thousands of followers of President Salvador Allende were imprisoned. After more than a quarter of a century, a group of former prisoners returns to the concentration camp. The documentary records the memories of the forced stay in Chacabuco. Despite the harsh conditions, the inmates managed to establish a thriving cultural life, including theatrical performances, poetry competitions, chess tournaments, and Los Chacabucanos musical performances. The experiences are complemented by testimonies from staff and from writer Hernan Rivera Letelier, who witnessed the construction of the camp.
