Borderland plot
The border area from the title has several meanings, which are reflected in a poetic way in this documentary. For example, there is the concrete border area between countries, but it is also about boundaries between friends and family members separated by history. Such as Viktor, who cannot return to his mother in Latvia after four years in a Russian prison. Or the old communist comrades, who wave to each other at the border triangle of Latvia, Russia and Belarus. The border area as no man's land, an empty plain, and the effect that a building has on it. The frontier of an uncertain identity. With or without citizenship, philosophizing about good and evil. The thoughts in the voice-over are illustrated with images of houses on deserted plains, in the strewn snow, and of an old military satellite dish, now searching for life in space.
