Canada is in the American history books as the last stop (and exit) for those who escaped slavery on the Underground Railroad. The country also likes to present itself as the epitome of diversity and tolerance. The fact that we have to take that with a large grain of salt made this well-researched, but not too startling documentary about racism in the national popular sport: ice hockey. In November 2019, Akim Aliu decided to publicize a racist incident involving his coach Bill Peters. It was the start of a vigorous social debate and is the basis from which Davis explores the role of black ice hockey players in the NHL, and the history of black Canadians.
