Bistro in Vitro plot
A knitted steak, 3D printed marl, exquisite lab pearls and exotic meat oysters are on the futuristic menu of Bistro In Vitro, a fictional restaurant serving cultured meat dishes that may one day end up on your plate. By exploring and pushing the boundaries of our food culture, the online project shows that cultured meat is more than an inferior meat replacement. Philosopher and scientist Koert van Mensvoort created the website Bistro In Vitro and wants to use it to provoke thought about the ethics, aesthetics and the future of cultured meat. It features future culinary dishes and video interviews with visionary scientists, experts, renowned chefs and critics of cultured meat. Cultured meat is made in the lab using myosatellite cells found throughout the body, ready to turn into mature muscle cells. Many people still resent this kind of meat from the lab.
