Azbuka na Nadejdata plot
On the Bulgarian border is a strip of land called 'the dead zone', which is not marked on the map and extends over an area of many kilometers. The last villages in this area have gradually been abandoned. Most residents emigrated to Turkey in the 1980s when the Bulgarian government made it mandatory to change Turkish names into Slavic ones in order to become more 'native'. The documentary focuses on some of the families who have remained in the dozen border villages and the difficulties they face in raising their children.
