All Magic Sands/Chappaqua plot
June 15-17, 1965: Ornette Coleman and his trio record eighty minutes of new music for Conrad Rooks' unfinished feature film Chappaqua. The music is never used as a soundtrack. July 1965: Nashville TV boss Al Gannaway produces a 16mm children's adventure film, working titled All Magic Sands. The story revolves around four orphans who are washed up on a deserted tropical island. The original footage from this failed epic sat untouched in a film lab for decades. An unfinished film and a rejected soundtrack, conceived, made and performed almost simultaneously - they turn out to be a perfect match in the end.
