A Breath plot
How do you survive the twentieth century? For the Chinese artist couple Huang Miaozi and Yu Feng, this was not just a poetic question, but the raw reality. Both were born at the turn of the century and have experienced the turbulent upheavals in China very closely. After endured hardships in World War II, they were both arrested in the mid-1960s, after Mao proclaimed the Cultural Revolution. They were released after seven years in prison. In addition to dramatized scenes and archival footage from the various periods, extensive use has been made of the work - drawings, cartoons and calligraphic artworks - of the now eighty-year-old, but still very active artists.
