The Master Blackmailer plot
Her adultery has been over 10 years now, but she is being blackmailed into it. Other prominent members of the community are also written to and a colonel commits suicide. Before his death, however, he sends a letter to Sherlock Holmes, because if the master blackmailer can be stopped, others can be spared this suffering.
