Siege plot
In May 2009, New Zealand experienced a rare and intense drama. It all started when three police officers rang the doorbell one morning at the house of one Jan Molenaar, in the town of Napier. They had a search warrant with them, because Molenaar was suspected of growing cannabis. So far nothing special. But when the search was in full swing, Molenaar returned from the morning walk with his dog. He was immediately furious when he saw the officers, grabbed a firearm and started firing. One of the officers was killed, two others were seriously injured, as was a friend who tried to intervene. What followed was an occupation that would last no less than 53 hours and in which the entire residential area was closed.
