Revenge plot

Tom Cochran has left the Navy after 12 years. He is on vacation and decides to visit the powerful businessman Tiburon Mendez in Mexico. There he meets Mendez's beautiful young wife. They are attracted to each other, but know that Mendez will not tolerate betrayal.

Reasonable film about a man who leaves the army and visits a friend in Mexico, only to fall in love with his wife. It's not just because of the title that the already simple story has few surprises. This somewhat slow revenge film has to rely mainly on the atmosphere, and that's a must here. It all looks nice too, with nice camera work too.
I also saw the shorter director's cut.

Slightly boring.
Strange to read that quite a lot of people wanted to film this scenario in Hollywood. The biggest problem with the movie is actually the screenplay. The first 40 minutes are mainly devoted to the love story, with some steamy sex scenes. That part is also a bit boring but you believed the chemistry. After that you actually want the film to go into full revenge mode but it keeps on rippling too much without getting an adrenaline boost of action. Scott wants to do something nice visually here and there, but it's too little. The flow just isn't there. It's right that this is Scott's most forgotten film.

Quite a reasonable film, mainly because of the beautiful images of the Mexican places and surroundings. Because in terms of crime, I found it disappointing. Costner and Quinn do a fine job, but the story doesn't really take off, especially in the first half of the film. The ending surrounding Tibey and his companions has not been worked out further, which is a shame for a film called Revenge. But that also makes you ask the question: who actually took revenge on whom?
