"Caged Women! What would they do if they were turned loose for a day?"
Although unemployed Betty Andrews is innocent, she is convicted of a department store theft. Despite the best efforts of her lawyer and noted social worker Mary Ellis and journalist Jim Brent, Betty is sent to the Curtiss House of Correction for a year. The head, Matron Brackett, along with inmates Frankie Mason, Georgia Mason aka "The Duchess" and Nita Lavore, rules with an iron fist. But then one of the prisoners commits suicide…
