Boomah plot
"The street always collects..."
In the slums of Jordan, power is exercised through fear, favors, and violence. Boomah, an unpredictable street boss, sustains herself through petty extortion and intimidation, for for those at the bottom of the ladder, crime is the only work that brings in money. Children move through the same streets she controls, selling goods, delivering messages, and learning the rules of danger before they reach adulthood; Boomah frightens them, exploits them, and sometimes protects them, trapped between the instincts of a predator and the shadow of her own abandoned youth. When a new, better-organized criminal power begins to restructure the underground economy, independent lives like hers become increasingly replaceable.
