Professional criminal Gilbert Galvan escapes from prison and crosses the border into Canada, where he takes on a new identity. He falls in love, gets married and takes a job as a security expert, but continues his criminal activities. When he does business with the mobster Tommy, he gets involved in the biggest job yet.

Light-hearted, biographical crime film reconstructs the 58 armed robberies 'The Flying Bandit' Gilbert Galvan managed to commit in Canada in the 1980s. Galvan [Josh Duhamel] fled the US in 1985 and continued his career as a bank robber under the pseudonym Robert Whiteman. In between he meets Andrea [Elisha Cuthbert], with whom he starts a family and in Vancouver he strengthens ties with the local crime king Tommy Kay [Mel Gibson]. Nestol Carbonall and Swen Temmell play the cops who only see a chance to catch Gilbert in the act and be sure of a conviction by working together. Based on true facts, yet the screenplay does not contain enough surprises to really please genre connoisseurs. Duhamel and Carbonall are fortunately well cast and deliver excellent work.

Decent crime drama. The fact-based story is shown with a wink. In the beginning it takes some getting used to and biting through. Once it gets going it becomes an entertaining film and Ungar even provides some sympathy for the protagonist. The film contains almost no action and is more of a drama with some humor. Duhamel is comfortable in his role and the chemistry with Cuthbert is great. Funny is the accentuation of the somewhat crazy facts that take place in the film. Airy successful drama. 3.0/3.5
