Marta Makowska is a romantic girl and a victim of fate at school. She shares a room with her sister Kasia and her grandmother, who tells her granddaughters horrific stories instead of fairy tales. In the room behind the wall, her parents - Tadek and Elzbieta - lead their married life. He is an intelligent man constantly humiliated by the system who silently envies his wealthy brother-in-law. She is the chairwoman of the Solidarity trade union at her company and longs for freedom. But then one day the real emotions start for the whole family…
