Russia, 1914. The First World War has just begun and six short stories show the daily life of the Russian population. In 'House', Boris tries to impress the wealthy Bella by buying a mansion. 'The Royal Christmas Tree' tells the story of the wounded soldier Ivan who collects autographs. In Figure Skaters, Pyotr and Xenia are about to enter a figure skating competition. 'The Bear' shows the friendship between Senka and a bear. 'Volunteers' tells the story of two friends who join the army but first seek out a good friend. In 'Chaliapin', Glasha and her brother Grisha hope for a Christmas miracle.
