Stoney (Peter Fonda) is an old, cranky rancher whose health has been failing him lately. Because Stoney is too stubborn to go to the doctor, his daughter lures him to the big city, where he is "held" in the hospital for an examination. When his best friend Shuck (Kris Kristofferson) learns of this, he makes a valiant effort to get Stoney out of the hospital. Together with Stoney's grandson, computer nerd Charles, the two old cowboys make off in a stolen hearse. The FBI soon gives chase...
