The Wishing Ring: An Idyll of Old England plot

Giles is expelled from school for misconduct. His father, the Earl, is furious and informs his son that he will not see him again until he can behave decently and is worthy of his trust. Giles then meets Sally, the vicar's daughter. She mistakenly mistook him for a gardener. Giles gives her a supposedly magical ring, but he actually tricks her with it. However, she thinks she can wish for anything because of this ring.
