The Mysterious Miss X plot
"X-TRA THRILLS...X-TRA LAUGHS...E-TRA ENTERTAINMENT"
Actors Keith and Dan travel by bus to New York and spend the night in a small town. They take a room in a hotel where a murder is committed in the room next to Keith. He hears the shot, takes a pulse and is there when the police arrive. He and Dan are incarcerated on suspicion of murder. A cop searches their luggage and discovers a letter in Keith's briefcase asking for a pardon from one Mr. Geoffrey Desmond, Superintendent of the London Police's Crime Department. The letter is a prop from a play by the actors, but the police chief thinks it is real and releases them both. Keith stays behind to solve the murder because Julie, whom he met on the bus, is the daughter of the man the prosecutor has now charged. Keith wants to help Julie clear her father's name.
